The Cheapest Countries to Visit from India in 2026

Money Guide · 7 min read · Updated July 2026

"Cheap" is easy to claim and hard to prove — so every country below comes with a realistic daily budget covering a private room or good hostel, three local meals, and transport. Not luxury, not suffering: comfortable backpacker-to-midrange travel.

And because a destination is only cheap if you can actually reach it and get in, each one also has a "Getting there from India" note: which airports fly there, roughly how the routing works, and the current visa position for Indian passport holders. All visa information checked July 2026 — always reconfirm on the destination's official immigration or e-visa site before you book, because these rules change with little warning.

1. Vietnam 🇻🇳 — from $25/day

The best food-to-price ratio on Earth. A bowl of pho is $1.50–2, a fresh banh mi under a dollar, a decent private room $12–18. Overnight sleeper buses connect the whole country for a few dollars. Ha Long Bay, Hoi An's lanterns, mountains in Sapa — the variety is absurd for the price.

Getting there from India: the easiest one on this list. Nonstop from Delhi (DEL) and Mumbai (BOM) to Hanoi (HAN) and Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) on IndiGo, VietJet, Vietnam Airlines and Air India, plus IndiGo service from Kolkata (CCU) — roughly 4–5 hours in the air. Visa: Indian passport holders are eligible for Vietnam's 90-day e-visa, applied for online at the official portal evisa.gov.vn — around USD 25 single entry / USD 50 multiple entry, typically 3 working days. One trap: the entry port you pick on the application is fixed, so choose the airport you'll actually land at.

2. Indonesia 🇮🇩 — from $30/day (outside the resorts)

Bali's beach clubs will happily eat your budget — but local Indonesia won't. Warung meals for $1–2, guesthouses from $15, and once you leave Bali (Java's volcanoes, Lombok's beaches, Flores and the Komodo region) prices drop further while the scenery somehow improves. Our free-beaches guide shows the cheap side of Bali itself.

Getting there from India: nonstop Delhi (DEL) to Denpasar (DPS) on Air India and IndiGo, around 8 hours, with IndiGo also flying from Bengaluru (BLR), Chennai (MAA) and Bhubaneswar (BBI), and seasonal service from Mumbai (BOM). Visa: India is not on Indonesia's visa-exemption list, so you need the Visa on Arrival — either at the airport or pre-applied online as an e-VOA — at IDR 500,000 for 30 days, extendable once. For Bali specifically, add the Bali tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per person on top.

3. Georgia 🇬🇪 — from $35/day

Europe's best-kept budget secret (for now). Khinkali dumplings cost cents, house wine is poured like water, marshrutka minibuses cross the country for a few dollars, and the Caucasus mountains look like Switzerland before Switzerland's prices. Tbilisi's old town alone is worth the flight.

Getting there from India: IndiGo flies nonstop Delhi (DEL) → Tbilisi (TBS), about 6½ hours, roughly 8 times a week as of July 2026, and added a nonstop Mumbai (BOM) → Tbilisi route from 2 August 2026. From Bengaluru you'll connect, usually via Delhi or a Gulf hub. Visa: Indian passport holders with a valid visa or residence permit from the US, UK, Schengen area, Canada, Australia, Japan and several other countries can enter Georgia without a separate Georgian visa; everyone else applies for the Georgian e-visa online, usually 5–7 working days. Budget for one extra: since 1 January 2026 visitors must carry health and accident insurance with minimum cover of GEL 30,000 (roughly USD 11,000).

4. Albania 🇦🇱 — from $35/day

The same turquoise Mediterranean as Greece and Croatia, minus the invoice. The Albanian Riviera (Ksamil, Himara, Dhermi) delivers beach-postcard views with €40 guesthouses and €8 seafood dinners. Go before everyone else does — prices climb every year.

Getting there from India: no nonstops. Tirana (TIA) is normally one stop via Istanbul (Turkish Airlines connects most Indian metros), or via Rome, Vienna or a Gulf hub — realistically 12–16 hours door to door from DEL/BOM/BLR. Visa: Indian passport holders who hold a valid, previously-used multiple-entry Schengen visa — or a valid multiple-entry visa or residence permit issued by an EU country, the UK or the US — can enter Albania without an Albanian visa (carry proof you've actually travelled on it). Read the condition carefully, because it is the one that catches people out: your stay is tied to that document, and Albania's foreign ministry requires you to leave no later than 3 days after it expires, inside the normal 90-days-in-180 short-stay limit. A Schengen visa with three weeks left on it buys you three weeks in Albania, not three months. Without one, Albania issues an online Type C short-stay e-visa (90 days within 180) — check the current government fee on Albania's official e-visa portal, e-visa.al, and ignore agency sites quoting bundled prices. Albania has also repeatedly granted seasonal visa-free windows to particular nationalities, renewed by decree each spring, so the current terms are worth confirming on the same portal before you book.

5. Bolivia 🇧🇴 — from $20/day

South America's cheapest wonder-package: the Uyuni salt flats' mirror effect, high-altitude La Paz with its cable-car network (30 cents a ride), Lake Titicaca, and Amazon jungle tours for a fraction of neighboring countries' prices. Set lunches (almuerzo) run $2–3.

Getting there from India: the long one, and the reason Bolivia is last. No direct flights and no short routing — expect at least two stops from DEL or BOM, typically via a European hub (Madrid is the classic) or via a Gulf hub to São Paulo or Lima, then onward to Santa Cruz (VVI) or La Paz (LPB). Total journey time comfortably exceeds 30 hours, so the flight is the real cost here, not the country. Visa: Indian passport holders sit in Bolivia's Group 2, so a tourist visa is required. Bolivia's official consular tariff (checked July 2026) sets the Group 2 tourist visa at USD 30 — the USD 160 figure you will see quoted all over the internet is the reciprocity rate that applies only to US and Puerto Rico passports, and it is not your fee. Apply in advance at a Bolivian consulate, and do not count on getting the visa at the border: Bolivia historically issued Group 2 tourist visas on arrival, but reports since mid-2025 say that facility has been withdrawn, and the Bolivian Embassy in London now tells Group 2 applicants to submit documents and book a consular appointment before travelling. Confirm the current position with your nearest Bolivian consulate before you buy a ticket. Expect to show a passport photo, itinerary, hotel booking, onward ticket and proof of funds. A yellow fever certificate is required for lowland areas east of the Andes below 2,300 m (Beni, Pando, Santa Cruz and parts of other departments) — not for La Paz, Sucre or Uyuni. If you need it, get vaccinated at least 10 days before you fly.

💡 The real money leak isn't the country — it's the flight. A $600 vs $350 ticket wipes out ten days of Vietnam savings. Search flexible dates before fixing your plans.
